If you’re looking for a painting company, chances are you’ll have a lot of questions to ask. At Premiere Painting our entire business wants you to be comfortable asking any question that may arise. That’s why we put together some of our most commonly asked questions for you!
Q. Why should I paint my house?
A. A lot of people ask me why painting your home is so important. Not only is it important from a cosmetic standpoint, but it also protects your home. Think of the paint job as the skin of the exterior or interior of your home/business. It protects the interior and exterior surface areas from the elements. It also creates a mood, especially on the interior of your home. Thoughtful colour choices, proper prep work, and professional execution of a painting projects will really make a huge difference

Q. How do I achieve lasting result?
A. I tell all my customers that painting is the easy part (and most fun). Getting the surface ready for the painting phase is the most important. There’s little point in putting energy and time into a painting project that will peel or fade a year later. Hiring a professional and experienced painting contractor is key in ensuring your money is well spent. Contact us today for a free estimate and consultation
Q. What type of paint do you use and why?
A. We primarily use quality products from Dulux. If there is another brand that you are interested in using, talk with your estimator.

Q. Do you still use oil based paints and what is the primary difference between oil and water-based (acrylic, latex) paints? Benefits?
A. Oil-based paints have been mostly removed from the market for architectural applications. This is due to the constant push for less solvent and lower VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) in the paint formulas. Oil-based paints redeeming qualities include a superior smooth look, good moisture resistance, and ultimate hardness and durability. Unfortunately, because of the curing process, oil-based paints tend to become very brittle as they age, which leads to cracking, peeling, and ultimate failure of the paint. On exteriors and moisture prone areas on interiors, oil-based paints have a tendency to mildew, because some of the ingredients act as a food source for mildew. Water-based paints, also known as latex and acrylic paints (these are the ingredients that "bind" the paint to the surface), have come so far and have outperformed their counterparts of yesteryear. Today's latex and acrylic paints exhibit excellent qualities, such as moisture resistance, mildew resistance, flexibility, colour fastness, and block resistance (the ability to not stick to itself or objects to stick to the finish, such as items on a painted shelf). Most of the water based paints we use are known as 100% acrylic, which are of the highest quality available.

Q. How many coats of paint are included in the quote?
A. We always apply two coats of paint, guaranteed

Q. Can you offer advice on how to choose a colour?
A. Lighting, architecture, and room decor are three environmental factors to consider when choosing a paint colour. An ideal paint colour is one that considers the all three elements and provides balance and unity to the space.

Q. What if I don’t like the colour selected, can I change it?
A. Would it be an additional cost? Yes, it is ultimately the homeowner’s responsibility for any colour choices, and there is an additional cost for a colour change. The additional cost is determined by how much of the job is completed, along with the cost of the additional paint.

Q. How long will the job take?
A. Depending on the project, you will need to call premiere Painting to discuss scope of work. However, Premiere Painting does guarantee the job will get done within 10 days or less (winter season only). A typical bedroom would take about a day or two to paint the walls, ceiling and trim. You should plan on not having access to the bedroom for at least one night.

Q. How do I prepare my rooms for your visit?
A. You will need to remove any small items from the tops of shelves and pictures from your wall. We can move the larger items towards the center of the room and properly cover and protect furniture and items.

Q. How much will this painting job disrupt my home?
A. Disruption is kept to a minimum. At the end of each day our crews will clean the areas we are working in and move tools and paint to an isolated area (garage or basement).

Q. What should I do to prepare my house for painting?
A. Interior
Our painting crews protect all your furniture, fixtures, and floor coverings when they prepare the area, however we ask that you clear the room of small items and breakables. We can also move the bigger items for you when we arrive upon request.

We ask that any shrubbery be cut back (approximately 2 feet from home), furniture is moved off the patio and/or deck, window screens are unlocked from the inside, and someone be home for the pressure washing. Also, it’s important to let us know if you have noticed any severely rotten wood and major water leaks around windows, doors, or ceilings so we can address these issues prior to starting the project.

Q. Do I have to be home while the work is being performed?
A. No. We can let ourselves in and lock up after we leave.

Q. Does Premiere Painting perform small jobs?
A. No job is too small. We handle small projects, such as repairing a hole or drywall. We also offer handyman services.

Q. Can Premiere Painting assist in choosing colours?
A. Premiere offers interior painting clients a free colour consultation with a professional colour consultant*. Most of our clients really appreciate this service because using an interior decorator can be expensive.
 Q. Are you licensed and insured?
A. Absolutely, we have 20 million of public liability insurance.
Q. What forms of payments do you accept?
A. We accept cash, cheques, and all major credit cards. And we are in the process of offering financing options as well.
